Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Xiajialing Village, 50 km north of Zhuoni County Seat, Gansu. It was named by the No. 1 Gansu Party of Regional Geological Survey in 1971.


Lithology and Thickness

Sandstone and Limestone. Lower part consists of feldspar-quartz sandstone and sandy shale, intercalated with limestone and pebbly limestone. Upper part is of gray thick-bedded limestone, locally with oolitic texture, and intercalated with limy conglomerate, rich in fusulinids. Thickness >1168 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Unknown: The bottom is unexposed. Regionally, next older unit is the Badu Fm.

Upper contact

Unconformably overlain by the Dongzhakou Gr

Regional extent

Distributed at Xiajialing, Yeliguan, etc. of Lintan in the West Qingling north zone, with great changes in lithofacies.

Fossils

At Yeliguan, the lower part contains Fusulinids Pseudostaffella sphaeroidea and Profusulinella wangyui, while the upper part yields Fusulina quasicylindrica, Fusulinella cf. bocki, etc.

Depositional setting

Quite variable: It is interpreted as littoral-neritic and shallow-carbonate (with oolites) in type section region around Lintan, Zhuoni and Minxian County. But it interpreted as deep-water carbonate deposits in such area as Zhuonixiala, and of marine-continental deposits containing fossil plants along Kanglehubasi (temple) and Mayan River of Huixian County.
